Choosing the wrong kind of wire can be detrimental for any project. Picking a higher quality wire insulated with better materials can be the difference in electrical work functioning properly, and potential fires. Let’s look at the difference in Hypalon Covered or HC wire, and Plastic Covered or PC Wire.

The Red and White wires are the HC Wires and the Green and Yellow wires are the PC Wires.

To simulate a short circuit overheating, we use a butane torch to apply fire directly to the wires to see how they to react.

**Please practice all safety percussions and test in a well ventilated area.**

When using a torch to simulate overheading, the PC wire quickly ignited and began to melt.

The HC Wire, however, did not ignite despite being torched for twice the amount of time as the PC Wire.

You can see that the PC wire has melted together, and you are unable to unravel them, while the HC wire has not melted together and can be unraveled.

A few extra dollars spent on quality materials can be the difference in a working machine and costly damages.
