AMP has developed the AMP SUPERSEAL 1.5 Series connector to meet the constantly increasing needs and requirements in safety and reliability of the electrical connection field. These connectors are completely interchangeable and can be connected with existing components, including Metri-Pack 150 series.

CONTACT INSERTION

Begin with a crimped wire with a wire seal for both cap and plug contacts.

Contacts can be inserted into housing cavities in one position only. Plugs use receptacle contacts. Caps use tab contacts.

Insert the contact into the connector cavity until you hear and feel a click. A slight tug will verify the contact is locked in place. Repeat the process until all the cavities are filled.

Cavity Plug Hi-Line part #AP2820811, must be used when some cavity is not loaded with contacts, to prevent the ingress of water.

CLOSING ANTI - BACKOUT DEVICE

For 2 to 6 position plugs, rotate the device to deflect the central lances inwardly, and then push until the locking of the side arms. For single position plugs, push the device till its upper end is at the same level of the housing mating face.

For 1 to 6 position caps, push the device using a jig until it stops.

MATING

When mating connectors, grasp the cap housing by the body and align it with the plug housing. Push the housings together until locking tab clicks into place with the cap.

UN-MATING

When un-mating connectors, lift the locking tab on the plug housing and then pull the plug housing away from the cap housing.

CONTACT REMOVAL

Since the locking lance of contacts can be reached from the mating side of the housings, it is first necessary to remove the anti - backout device.

REMOVAL OF PLUG CONTACTS

Deflect the side arms of the anti - backout device and pull it away.

Insert the Contact Extraction Tool, Hi-Line part # AP915790071, between contact and lance nose, then rotate it slightly, this releases the locking finger by moving it away from the shoulder of the contact, while at the same time, gently pull the wire through the rear of the connector. Repeat for all wires.

Note: Be careful not to insert the extraction tool in the contacting area of the receptacle.

REMOVAL OF CAP CONTACTS

Insert the Anti - Backout Device Extraction Tool, Hi-Line part #AP785084 in one of the central holes of the anti - backout device and pull it away.

Insert the Contact Extraction Tool between contact and lance nose, then rotate it slightly.

This releases the locking finger by moving it away from the shoulder of the contact, while at the same time, gently pull the wire through the rear of the connector. Repeat for all wires.

Note: Rotating the extraction tool, be careful not to deform the tab.
